Pups visit the Melbourne Show

  Ollie, Denner & Biscuit

Seeing eye dogs gathered at Flinders Street Station then travelled to the Royal Melbourne Show in force.

Events like this are a great opportunity and fantastic confidence building exercise for our pups in training.

With huge crowds, focusing on the job was essential and our pups passed with flying colours.  We visited the police and ambulance stands, the monster trucks, the horse stables, the busy show bag tents and lots more!

Important Announcement from William M Jolley, SEDA President and Chairman of the Board

It gives me much pleasure to share with you some exciting news.

This week the Boards of SEDA and Vision Australia signed a Heads of Agreement that foreshadows a merger of the two organisations. We plan to combine our operations by the end of June, and for the formal merger to take place at a convenient time in the future.

Following the merger, Vision Australia's newly-created Seeing Eye Dog and Mobility Services Division will continue and extend the SEDA operations of breeding and training of Seeing Eye Dogs, and instruction and follow-up of clients using Seeing Eye Dogs.

We are sure that these new arrangements will greatly benefit SEDA clients and other Seeing Eye Dog users by giving direct access to Vision Australia's full range of rehabilitation, low vision, library and information, employment and peer support services

Selwood Family Meet Their SEDA Namesake

They already have an Eagle, a Cat and a Lion in the fold, but the Selwood family have made room for a new member with the addition of a very special dog – a Seeing Eye Dog. AFL players Adam, Troy and Joel, along with up-and-comer Scott and parents Maree and Bryce have been named as AFL celebrity ambassadors for Seeing Eye Dogs Australia (SEDA).

Most of the family gathered at SEDA’s headquarters in Melbourne on Saturday, June 16, for the official announcement, where one of SEDA’s latest litter of the future Seeing Eye Dogs was named “Selwood” and presented by CEO Leigh Garwood to mark the occasion.

The boys experienced first hand what life is like with no vision.  Acompanied by a Seeing Eye Dog Instructor and under blind fold, they walked the streets of Kensington in the trusty 'paws' of Seeing Eye Dogs Toby the Labrador and Nirvada the Golden Retriever.

Over the next 18 months or so, puppy Selwood will be a very busy, developing social skills and enhancing technical skills so he too will become the eye of someone who is blind or vision impaired

Supporters can contribute to Puppy Selwood's training for as little as $20 per month (it costs $30,000 to fully train a Seeing Eye Dog) by calling 1800 037 773 or click here to sponsor puppy Selwood now.
